Music integrates the three components of performing, composing and appraising through the study of various musical traditions. At AS the Western Classical tradition is explored through the study of orchestral music. Modern musical idioms are also encountered through Musical Theatre or Jazz, Rock and Pop.
At A2, a study of twentieth century music through a detailed set work provides a broad basis for entrance to university and musical careers. The study is both practical and theoretical.

The full Advanced Level in Music provides the basis for students who wish to proceed to Higher Education to study Music. It is an essential grounding for those who wish to work as performers, composers, music broadcasters or in arts administration. Music is also a desirable option for many different degree courses and employers as it shows the ability to perform under pressure, work with others and perform to a high standard.
Music combines well with other arts subjects, particularly Performing Arts. It also is a popular choice with those who are studying Mathematics and the sciences.
