The BTEC First Diploma in Sport (Level 2) qualification is equivalent to 4 GCSEs C - A* and is a full-time qualification. The course is intended to provide students with an introduction to the sports industry, enabling them to investigate a range of areas to study. The aims of the course are: To stimulate and sustain students' interest in, and enjoyment of the sports industry. To develop practical sports skills in a variety of sports. To provide an appropriate course for those who wish to either progress into employment or to go onto higher level qualifications, such as Level 3 courses.
The BTEC First Diploma consists of 7 units; 2 mandatory and 5 specialist units which are delivered in one academic year. It covers aspects of knowledge, understanding and competency necessary for employment within the sector these include:
Mandatory Units - 15 credits
Unit 1 Fitness Testing and Training
Unit 2 Practical Sports
Optional units - 45 credits
Unit 5 Injury in Sport
Unit 7 Planning and leading Sports Activities
Unit10 Sports Nutrition
Unit 11 Development of personal fitness
Unit 14 Exercise and Fitness Instruction

All units are assessed and graded Pass/Merit or Distinction and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded. There are examinations.
