19.10.09 Letter To Parents on Upcoming Vaccination Programme

Dear Parent/Guardian,

The School Nursing Service has agreed a programme of dates to administer the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine in St David's.  This vaccine programme is being offered to all female students.  The virus in question, which is the cause of cervical cancer, is spread through sexual activity and so in the health interests of our students we are making this programme available.

We would like to make it clear that we are not in any way condoning sexual activity among our students but realise that in today's society a significant number of our students may already be sexually active and so we would be failing in our duty of care not to make this programme available to our students and we would wish them to be informed of the facts.

This in no way detracts from our desire to educate all our students in the values associated with mature sexual love in a Christian context.  This still very much remains our stance and is present in our General Religious Education programme offered to all students in keeping with our ethos and Gospel values. The Archdiocese of Cardiff is also fully aware of this initiative.

We trust you understand the circumstances of this vaccination programme and urge you to consider the information literature made available to your daughter.
